About me
Johnathan Watkins, M.A.
I graduated from the University of Wales, Bangor with a Master of Arts degree in music composition and performance. My main instruments are bassoon and contra bassoon, but I also play piano and other keyboard instruments (mainly organ and harpsichord).
Whilst at university, I took on the role of Curator of Early Instruments looking after the two organs, three harpsichords, spinet and clavichord in the school of music. I also undertook some repairs to woodwind instruments. Since leaving university I have gone on to work with groups such as the Concertante of London, the European Union Chamber Orchestra, the Gabrieli Consort and Players and more recently Dorchester Arts, Gregory Porter (Bournemouth International Centre), the Broadstone Music series and members of the Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra.
As a performer myself, I realise the importance of having an instrument that is in tip-top condition, and so I take every care to ensure that repairs are to the highest possible standard.
Alongside repairing instruments and performing where I can, I am also a composer and arranger.
